Buddied tree planting. In addition to the carbon offset credits, we plant 4 trees per tonne of CO₂e offset. We are an official partner of Eden Reforestation Projects, who plant trees to improve livelihoods.
Alongside our tree planting, we also commit to diverting £1 per tonne of CO₂e from every sale to support our free data, tools and resources.
About this Project
The Gold Standard Gender Equality Certified Safe Water Project in Lango addresses the critical need for clean water and promotes gender equality. This pioneering project is the first to be certified under Gold Standard’s Gender Equality framework, highlighting its commitment to reducing gender disparities while providing sustainable water solutions.
In the Lango region, accessing safe water is a major challenge. Traditionally, water has been boiled using firewood, contributing to deforestation and creating a significant burden for women and children who typically collect the water and firewood. This task consumes many hours per week, limiting educational and economic opportunities.
This project introduces sustainable water purification methods, eliminating the need for boiling water over open fires and significantly reducing household air pollution. The project saves nearly 208 hours per household annually by providing clean water, allowing women and children to engage in education and income-generating activities. It has also reduced the reported incidents of domestic violence related to water collection from 35% to zero.
