IC+ End User Licence Agreement (EULA)

The EULA is the agreement governing how individual End Users may access and use IC+ Data.

It works alongside the Commercial Data Licence Agreement (CDLA) under which the End User is authorised. The EULA governs the conduct of the individuals accessing the data.

Anyone accessing or using IC+ Data must read and comply with the EULA.

This includes users accessing IC+ directly, as well as users accessing IC+ through licensed tools, software, platforms, spreadsheets, APIs or other resources.

An End User is an individual who can access or use IC+ Data.

This includes anyone able to see an IC+ emission factor or access information from which an IC+ factor could reasonably be identified, inferred, extracted, reconstructed, or back-calculated.

Access is what matters. Someone may count as an End User even if they use IC+ infrequently or do not personally select the factors. Someone receiving only a project-specific result, without access to the underlying IC+ Data, will not normally count as an End User.

A Tool is a reusable resource that incorporates, stores, accesses, applies or makes IC+ Data available. This could include:

• Software or a web application
• A spreadsheet calculator or reusable template
• A database or data platform
• A model, dashboard or reporting system
• An API
• A plug-in or add-on
• An automated workflow

A simple one-off calculation, project file, report or assessment will not necessarily be treated as a separate Tool. Circular Ecology will consider how the resource is structured, whether it is reusable, how it is deployed and who can access it.

Yes. Project-specific results, reports and assessments can generally be shared where this is permitted under the applicable licence.

Recipients will not normally require licence coverage if they receive only project-specific results and cannot access or determine the underlying IC+ Data.

If a report, spreadsheet or other deliverable contains IC+ factors, or enough information to reconstruct or back-calculate them, the recipients will need to be covered as End Users.

Only within the scope of the applicable licence.

IC+ factors must not be published or made publicly available. They must also not be shared with individuals who are not covered by an appropriate licence. This applies regardless of the format used, including spreadsheets, PDFs, reports, dashboards, exports, and API responses.

Only where that use is covered by the applicable Commercial Data Licence Agreement.

Please contact Circular Ecology before:

• Adding IC+ to another Tool or platform
• Introducing API access
• Making IC+ available to additional users
• Providing access to another legal entity
• Integrating IC+ into third-party software
• Expanding use into another territory

Public or unauthenticated access to IC+ Data is not permitted. Where IC+ is to be hosted within an authenticated third-party platform, the platform owner must hold a suitable IC+ licence.

Access to and active use of IC+ must stop if the applicable licence expires, is suspended, or is terminated.

Completed reports and historic project records may normally be retained for audit or record-keeping. However, the IC+ Data contained within them must not be extracted, reused, recalculated or applied to new work without a valid licence.

Please contact us or the applicable licence holder before proceeding. Most questions can be resolved by confirming the intended users, tools, access arrangements and outputs.

Not necessarily. We will consider the nature, purpose, scope and deployment of the resource when assessing the number of Tools requiring licence coverage.

Stop any further disclosure where reasonably possible and notify your IC+ licence administrator.

The licence-holding organisation should notify us promptly where it becomes aware of unauthorised access, copying, disclosure, loss, extraction or misuse of IC+ Data.

The ICE Database Educational is intended to continue the educational legacy of the ICE Database.

However, maintaining and developing embodied carbon data to modern expectations requires substantial ongoing investment and resources.

IC+ has been developed to provide a sustainable route for maintaining and expanding the data whilst continuing to make ICE available as a free educational resource.
