Senior or Principal Sustainability Consultant – Carbon Footprinting

An opportunity is available for an enthusiastic and dedicated sustainability professional. Working across multiple carbon footprinting, embodied carbon and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) projects, predominantly assessing impacts of organisations, products, buildings and infrastructure.

You will have opportunities to work with progressive clients, helping them achieve measurable sustainability benefits.

We are ideally looking for a candidate with significant professional experience of carbon footprinting, embodied carbon or full LCA, assessing multiple environmental impacts at once. You will enjoy both managing delivery of consulting projects in a small team, and working independently, under times of minimal supervision.

Circular Ecology was founded in 2013, to provide environmental consulting services. We are committed to environmental improvement and have recently embedded tree planting into all of our projects.

  • Product carbon footprinting
  • Organisational carbon footprinting

We are looking to make a positive environmental difference through our work. Circular Ecology are currently maintaining the well-respected embodied carbon database for construction materials, known as the Inventory of Carbon & Energy (ICE) database. This free database has been downloaded by over 30,000 individuals and is used in many carbon assessments tools.

Ideal Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience and skills covering the below, combined with an enthusiasm for continual development:

  • Professional experience of carbon footprinting, embodied carbon or full LCA – essential requirement
  • Experience of consultancy
  • Overseeing and managing delivery of projects
  • Writing high quality and concise summary reports, as well as detailed technical reports
  • Good initiative, comfortable working under regular periods of minimal supervision
  • Excellent Excel skills, comfortable creating and maintaining large and complicated Excel models
  • Experience assessing the carbon footprint or LCA impacts of organisations, products, and/or buildings or construction assets
  • STEM Degree (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) or suitable experience and skills
  • Highly numerate
  • A good understanding of product or building carbon footprint standards. Such as WRI GHG Protocol, ISO 14076, EN 15804, EN 15978, PAS 2050, …etc
  • Experience with ecoinvent, OpenLCA, SimaPro or GaBi is advantageous
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Quality Assurance
  • Relationship building
  • Proposal writing
  • Task delegation

Job Role

This role involves:

  • Delivering carbon footprints (products and organisations), Life Cycle Assessments and embodied carbon assessments
  • Delivery across multiple consultancy projects
  • Managing delivery of consultancy projects
  • Overseeing delivery of consultancy projects
  • Writing technical summary reports and detailed technical reports
  • Liaison with clients, project partners and key stakeholders
  • Analysis of large datasets, condensing into robust and digestible outputs
  • Supporting both junior level consultants and senior colleagues
  • Task delegation
  • Internal quality assurance
  • Presenting results to clients
  • Key account management
  • Client relationship building
  • Business development
  • Project performance monitoring

Key Information and Benefits

Location: Remote working, anywhere in the UK. This position is fully home based in the UK only.

Role: Senior Sustainability Consultant

Hours: Full time (8 hours a day, 0.5 hour lunch break, 5 days a week, Mon to Friday, 37.5 hours delivery a week)

Salary: £35-45k based on skills and experience.

Benefits: Company pension scheme (no employee salary sacrifice required), flexi-time policy, company laptop, 2 days (FTE) available to employees to undertake voluntary work in the community.

Start date: Available now

  • Experience of coding, such as phyton, SQL, VBA, is advantageous but not essential
  • Comfortable working with large datasets
  • Writing high quality and concise summary reports, as well as detailed technical reports
  • Managing delivery of projects
  • Good initiative, comfortable working under regular periods of minimal supervision
  • Experience assessing the carbon footprint or LCA impacts of organisations, products, and/or buildings or construction assets
