Circular Ecology are delighted to announce the launch of a new and free embodied carbon calculator for concrete. The online tool allows up to 3 different concrete mixtures to be modelled and compared for their embodied carbon footprint.
Low carbon concrete is often one of the top win embodied carbon reduction measures for green construction. It can help buildings transition towards lower embodied carbon construction, which is important on the route to net zero carbon buildings.
The online tool allows users to enter the constituent mix of the concrete, which is often available from concrete design certificates provided by the concrete supplier.
Lower carbon additions, such as ground granulated blast furnace slag (ggbs) and fly ash (pfa), can replace some of the cement content. This comes with welcome embodied carbon reductions.
There is also an excel version of the calculator available for free on the Circular Ecology website. The excel version has been available since 2019, as part of the ICE database download, an embodied carbon database for construction materials.
The latest version of the ICE database, V3, was updated with funding from Heathrow Airport, Rail Standards and Safety Board (RSSB) and the Environment Agency.

I don’t see the calculator allowing for carbon banking of carbon sequestration material in the mix
This concrete calculator is much easier than other programs. Some of them don’t have enough formula for concrete mixing , Now love the way they built with. Thanks appreciate it
Really informative chart. Thanks a lot for sharing!
