Circular Ecology is presenting at an event on Cutting Carbon in Rail Infrastructure on 21 September 2016 in London.
The event will introduce the Rail Carbon Tool, which helps users measure and reduce the carbon footprint of rail infrastructure projects. The tool draws on data from the Inventory of Carbon and Energy.
The UK was the first country in the world to introduce legislation on Climate Change and has a legally binding commitment to achieve an 80% carbon emissions reduction by 2050, against the 1990 baseline. The infrastructure industry has a sizeable part to play in helping government to meet this target. Infrastructure accounts for 53% of the UK’s current total carbon emissions, and 16% of the UK’s total emissions are associated with constructing, operating and maintaining infrastructure assets.
The Rail Carbon Tool was developed to provide the railway industry and suppliers with a method to measure, manage and ultimately reduce carbon associated with railway activities. The event will raise awareness of the Rail Carbon Tool, with speakers from within the rail industry, case studies and live demonstrations of some of its key features.
Dr Craig Jones of Circular Ecology will give a presentation on the Inventory of Carbon and Energy, which he developed at the University of Bath. It is one of the key data sources used within the Rail Carbon Tool.
Circular Ecology has doing a range of work the rail sector for the last two years, to help reduce the environmental footprint of operations and infrastructure. To find out more, contact us.
