An Overview of Carbon Neutrality: Measure, Manage, Offset, Improve
Carbon neutrality describes an approach where greenhouse gas emissions are first measured, then reduced as far as reasonably possible, with remaining emissions balanced through verified carbon offsetting. Offsetting is intended to address residual emissions rather than replace direct reduction, and must be supported by transparent accounting and credible project selection. This approach is reflected in frameworks such as ISO 14068, which sets expectations for consistency, disclosure, and integrity in carbon neutrality claims.
