Contribute Data to the ICE Database

Help improve embodied carbon data

The ICE Database exists to make high quality embodied carbon data easy to find and easy to use. We’re inviting manufacturers, trade associations, researchers and practitioners to contribute robust data so designers, clients, and policy makers can make better, lower carbon decisions.

What we are looking for

We currently collect Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data through an Excel template.

The template allows you to provide key information such as:

  • Product or material name
  • Declared or functional unit
  • System boundary (A1–A3 mandatory; A4–C optional if reported)
  • Global Warming Potential
  • Geographical and temporal scope
  • Standards used
  • Verification status
  • EPD validity dates or study version numbers
  • Material categorisation information

We use this information to map, and integrate data that passes the quality assurance procedures into the backend ICE Database. The data itself isn’t published, it forms part of the background dataset.

How to provide data to us

  1. Complete the Excel template:

Download the ICE Data Submission Template, fill in the required fields, and upload it along with your EPD or LCA source files.

  • Download: ICE Data Submission Template

You can attach:

  • EPD PDFs or verified reports
  • Supplementary machine-readable tables (if available)
  • Methodology notes or QA documentation (optional)

Note: This template is specifically designed for EPD and LCA data to ensure consistency and comparability across the ICE Database.

  1. Discuss other data sources:

If you hold other forms of data, such as manufacturing energy data, sector benchmarks, research studies, or datasets not easily structured in the Excel template, we’d still love to hear from you.

We welcome discussions to explore how this data might be incorporated, whether through:

  • a custom template,
  • a bulk CSV submission, or
  • an API or automated data feed.

Please contact us with a short description of your data type, format, and scope. We’ll advise the best route forward.

Contact Us

We believe transparency and collaboration matter more than format. If your data is robust and relevant, we’ll help you find a way to share it.

Bulk data providers

If you have larger amounts of data to provide, please contact us to discuss bulk data provision.

What happens next?

  1. Intake & review – we confirm your files open and the content fits within ICE scope.
  2. Mapping – units, boundaries, and taxonomy are standardised for consistency.
  3. QA checks – we assess completeness, representativeness, and method alignment.
  4. Attribution – you confirm how your organisation and data source will be cited.
  5. Integration – once approved, data is incorporated into the background ICE dataset.

Contributor recognition

Every accepted dataset is cited transparently.

You’ll receive:

  • Source attribution in ICE entries (with optional web link)
  • Recognition in update summaries and data partner lists

ICE exists to strengthen open, evidence-based carbon data and your contribution helps make that possible.
