Buddied tree planting: In addition to the carbon offset credits, we plant 2 trees per tonne of CO₂e offset. Our tree planting partners include Ripple Africa and Eden: People+Planet (formerly Eden Reforestation Projects), both of which plant trees to improve livelihoods where they're needed most.

About this Project

The Gold Standard Cookstoves Malawi project is a Gold Standard Certified carbon offsetting project which provides more efficient cookstoves to families in Malawi.

Around the world, over 3 billion people cook over an open fire using wood or charcoal as the main fuel source.

The project aims to improve health and environmental sustainability by providing efficient cookstoves to local communities in Malawi. With over 178,000 household and 1,040 institutional cookstoves distributed, the project significantly reduces the reliance on wood and charcoal for cooking. This initiative generates income for 288 local people and promotes the use of Mayankho institutional stoves, which have an average efficiency of 0.386 tonnes of wood per 10,000 meals.
