Scaling Carbon Reductions Initiative (SCRI): Year 1 Summary

We launched our Scaling Carbon Reductions Initiative (SCRI) in late 2024 with the aim of developing free data, tools and guidance. The first year has now been completed, with the summary of 2025 presented below.

Funds were diverted into SCRI from online training course sales, carbon offset credits, and tree planting packs. For the 1st year period, up to Dec 31st 2025, a total of £27,226 was diverted into SCRI. This is a pleasing amount for a new initiative.

Of the total raised, 38% has been identified as SCRI funding, where the company wanted to support the ICE Database. The other 62% were incidental sales, where SCRI or the support of ICE were unfortunately not a driver of the sale.

With these 1st year SCRI funds, the following initiatives have been funded:

  1. ICE Database v4.1 update
  2. New data for “generic plastics” will be added in the next ICE Database Educational release, which will be released in the next couple of months
  3. 5 ICE Database Insights webinar series, aiming to improve the understanding and education around the use of generic embodied carbon data, uncertainty, data quality and challenges involved to produce generic data
  4. A free Scope 3 Emissions tool is in development and will be released with funding fully from the 2025 SCRI funds. This should be released over the next few months

Looking forward, we are expecting to raise lower funds for SCRI in 2026, with significantly reduced funds so far in Q1 2026.  However, we will continue to promote SCRI and to develop free data, tools, and guidance.

A key change to SCRI going forward is around the ICE Database. This is covered in our announcement of changes to the use of the ICE Database. Going forward, the SCRI initiative will focus on resources requiring lower levels of maintenance.

We have various initiatives under development which fall into this bracket. We will also redirect efforts around the ICE Database into educational resources, helping users to understand key parts of embodied carbon assessment.

Keep an eye on our networks for releases of the new data, tools, and resources.
