The Inventory of Carbon & Energy (ICE) database is once more available for download. The ICE database has become an important resource in the world of carbon footprinting, with over 15,000 users from all around the world. It is used far and wide and appears in countless reports, carbon calculators, lectures, journals, books and more. The database itself contains embodied energy and embodied carbon footprint factors for materials. Its original focus was construction materials, but the materials used in construction are diverse. As such, the ICE database has been used in a broad range of sectors to calculate the carbon footprint of products, buildings and supply chains.
The hard copy book version of the ICE database can still be purchased from BSRIA here. However, the free version of the ICE database hasn’t been available for download for over a year, until now. Circular Ecology are now hosting the download file for the ICE database.
A free excel version of the ICE database (V2.0) can now be downloaded from our site (Download your free copy of the embodied energy and carbon database). The data hasn’t been updated, it remains ICE V2.0 (2011), but it still contains embodied energy and embodied carbon footprint factors for over 200 material types. The ICE database remains a University of Bath resource, but the download file is now hosted by Circular Ecology.
This is just the first step towards getting the ICE database back up and running. However, it’s a small, but important step. The bigger challenge is now to secure funding to update the ICE database with our aim to keep it free and entirely independent, something that we are keen to achieve.
Keep an eye on our website for further ICE database announcements, or sign up to our ICE database email list by downloading a copy of the ICE database.
